How’s this for a lovely butterfly? This is a red admiral, Vanessa atalanta. Ranging from North America through Europe, and even Asia, this species is nothing short of robust and awesome. By butterfly-standards, they’re fairly hardened to the cold and tend to be the last ones out as winter settles in. Having said that, they do migrate southward from the colder climes each year, but some among the species are the last to retreat in the face of winter.
